In many children's groups / kindergartens, children with several first languages or with a mother tongue other than German have become the norm. This linguistically diverse situation can be challenging for the carers, especially when the children need more intensive linguistic support. In order for all children to start school successfully, targeted support is often necessary. But dealing with parents is not always easy either.
The course offers knowledge and specific didactic competence in order to promote multilingual children linguistically and to advise and support their parents correctly.
In addition, there is sufficient space for the exchange of experiences, questions and the joint search for answers to specific situations and case studies from practice.

Content and goals:

  • Acquisition of background knowledge about language acquisition and language development of multilingual children and children with German as a second language.

  • Didactic methods and playful elements to promote the acquisition of German taking into account the multilingualism of the children

  • Providing insights into the identity development of bicultural children

  • Knowledge of the emotionality of language, especially in the case of bilingualism, and its influence on learning success

  • Numerous games and exercises to make individual multilingualism visible and tangible as a linguistic and cultural treasure in the children's group

  • Developing communication strategies in preparation for conversations with parents of multilingual children

  • Early literacy: imparting or acquiring methods to introduce children to the written language earlier and to advise and guide parents accordingly
